‘Year 1 Teddy Bear Run !’
On Wednesday morning we set off in our PE kits, clutching our cuddly toys, to the Mayflower Primary School for the annual ‘Year 1 Teddy Bear Run!’ After a drink and snack, we did some extra PE activities too! A BIG thank you to Miss Jarrett and the Sports Association for organising this fab event; we had great fun with you all! Also, we are grateful to the helpful and friendly Mayflower pupils who steered us all in the right direction for our activities on the day!

Ben returned for two of our PE lessons to help us brush up on our rugby skills again! We warmed up by running around the pitch first and then played some games!

Year 1 were lucky enough to have Rugby Coach to lead our PE Games lessons last term! They are really going miss these – they learnt so many useful skills, including effective teamwork! Miss Tye took a few photos during our last lesson and we said a BIG thank you to Ben!

A very BIG thank you to Mrs Arnold for warming through our bagels for us - we thoroughly enjoyed our 'Magic Breakfast' yummy surprise!

Well, what a busy half term we have had!...
We started it with our Class Assembly – thank you to everyone who came along! The children were all stars and spoke and acted their parts so well! (We think they thoroughly deserved the gingerbread biscuits they had afterwards!)
We won the ‘Attendance Ted’ in March – congratulations everyone!
Last week we were second in the crisp packet count – go Year 1! (Fingers crossed for next week’s totals – it would be fab to end the Spring Term on a high!) A BIG thank you to all those families who have been busy collecting for us!
We have just enjoyed some RE/Art activities in the lead up to Easter – we made our own paper leaves and flowers! We also printed some Easter symbols with potatoes to create our own wrapping paper!
This morning was our special Easter Assembly with Jesus’ story and Spring songs – we had our best singing voices in, especially for ‘The Chocolate Song’ and ‘Spring Chicken’! (Ask your children to demonstrate the funny actions to you!)
We wish you and your families a very happy Easter holiday!

We have been enjoying our afternoon reading activities this week...and there are still three more of these to go! We have been enjoying different versions of ‘The Gingerbread Man’ and taking part in all sorts of activities on this theme!

Our school ‘Reading Week’ got off to a cracking start this morning with a dance workshop! Lizzie (from ‘West End In Schools’) helped us bring ‘The Gingerbread Man’ story to life with our fab movements to music!
In our classes in the afternoons, we’ll be busy with ‘The Gingerbread Man’ activities, like reading different versions of the story, decorating bookmarks and role playing the characters!
Today we told the class about our favourite books and made bookmarks for them! Miss Abulkhairi showed us what she was reading at the moment; a story all about time travel!
...and the reading doesn’t stop in school time either! The ‘Book Fair’ will be in the hall at hometimes (until Thursday) for any children wishing to buy a book...or two!
Happy reading everyone! J

We had a fab Christmas party at the end of our Autumn term. We played games, danced the afternoon away and then tucked into our special party food! (Thank you if you sent some in for us to enjoy!) At the end, we found out that Father Christmas had been invited too and handed out some early pressies for us all!

Happy New Year!! Hope you have all enjoyed a fabulous Christmas break...and are refreshed and ready for the term ahead!
Before we do this, let’s step back in time to when the 'History Off The Page' company came in to work with us in school in October! The hall was transformed into a seventeenth century London street full of shops! Through storytelling and experiencing lots of different activities, we learnt SO much about the Great Fire Of London!

Well, what a busy term this has been already!
We really enjoyed our trip to see the ‘Jack And The Beanstalk’ panto at the Colchester Mercury last week. Some of the actors even ran over to see us in our seats and gave us ‘High Fives’! There were lots of funny jokes and songs and, of course, a happy ending!
We are very excited to have performed our Christmas show this week and hope you enjoyed it as much as us! Our rehearsals have really got us into the mood for Christmas – we even let all the classes have a sneak preview of it first!
Our next event will be our Christmas party – we can’t wait, and we can bring party clothes and food in for this if we like!
We wish everyone a fantastic Christmas holiday and all the best for the new year! Looking forward to seeing you for a brand new term in 2019!
Best wishes from Miss Abulkhairi and Ms Direk
September 2018
A BIG welcome back to all the children after their Summer holiday! Wow, you have already been Year Ones for three weeks and have settled into your new class so well!
We have started our topic of ‘The Great Fire Of London’ and are really looking forward to our visit from ‘History Off The Page’ very soon to help us with this!
Well done to all of you who are remembering to read at home! Parents, a reminder that your children will be rewarded for doing this; so please sign their reading books for them! Reading is a major focus for our school this year.
Another quick reminder that our PE days are Tuesdays and Thursdays, so please have your PE kits in school ready for this!
We are very lucky to have healthy drinks for sale this term during breaktimes, costing only 10p each. (Your child will also be able to choose a piece of fruit to enjoy).
Watch this space for more class news...and don't forget to sign up to 'ClassDojo' so that you can keep up to date that way too!...
