Welcome to Year 6!
Welcome Back. I hope you had a lovely half term.
So far this academic year we have done so much! The highlight for many of us was the visit to the Harwich School to see their production of Bugsy. This is where the children got the idea of a theme for our prom. I am so excited for the prom and have been making plans and preparations already! The children are raising money for this themselves and we start this half term off with a sponsored spell. I have attached the spellings for you below so you can practice.
We continue to use IXL and currently we have completed 50,000 questions! Wow what an amazing amount of extra work year 6 have done this year! If you are at a loss for something to do you could always get the children to do one of the activities on IXL!
Last half term, as you know, we had the Essex Fire Service in to give us a talk on cyberbullying. They gave us some good pointers on what to avoid whilst we are online. The children were given an information sheet which hopefully you have seen. This has websites on it with great advice for parents when monitoring our children online. We have been doing lots of in class assemblies on how to stay safe online too, particularly with live streaming and using social media as there are so many pressures on our young children these days through this medium. There is a free event on Thursday 1st March at the Princes Theatre in Clacton based on this theme for parents. The evening will provide information about some of the pitfalls of the internet. Entitled 'The Dark Web - How Much Do You Know'. It is an excellent opportunity to see how we can protect our children and keep them safe when they are online. The link for the free tickets was on our newsletter, but just in case, here it is again:- https://princestheatre.ticketsolve.com/shows/873586044.
In class we are really going to be working hard towards our SATS. I hope that you will be able to attend the SATS attack sessions in school. We have 5 weeks of English starting on Friday 23rd February 9am-11am. Then after Easter we have 4 weeks of Maths sessions on a Tuesday 1-3pm. Please let me know if you are interested in these sessions. They are being run by the ACL and are totally free. You will have the opportunity to work for some of the session with your child as well which is an added bonus.
Our small group interventions are up and running and are having a positive impact on the children so far. We also have our SATS boosters on a Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday morning at 8.00am . We have selected pupils for this based on their needs but if you feel your child would benefit from sessions please speak to me and we can sort something out I am sure.
We just want all the children to really achieve the very best they can in their SATS as this is the base line that the secondary schools will use to set the children when they enter year 7.
However, it won't be all stress for us! We are also looking forward to planning for the fun events we have got coming up. Efteling, Mersea, prom to name a few! Of course we will start working on our year 6 show as well after the SATS are done!
We all have a job to do in class now that we are year 6, we have to be more responsible. Some of us are prefects, mentors, librarians, assembly monitors, office helpers, lunch time monitors and we also have a head boy and girl! We have renewed some of these jobs, particularly now as the library is really coming together.
Please do sign up to our class Dojo page if you have not already. We put notices on there for you as well and you can see how your child is doing each day.
Thank you for visiting our page.
