Introduction by Chair of Governors – Adrian Mann
A big welcome from the governors here at Harwich Community Primary School and Nursery. The Governing body has 9 members varying from teachers, support staff, parents and members of the local community. We work as a team with the Head Teacher for the benefit of all pupils and staff at Harwich.
We’re all volunteers and have a diverse background, from education, HR, transport and I.T. and we’re here to give the school a strategic direction and act as ‘a critical friend’. Thus helping to guide the school to improve the standard of education for all your children by setting the criteria by which the school is managed.
We ensure that local and national government legislation and targets are met; that we spend our school budget wisely; that the safety of everyone is paramount and that the curriculum is delivered to benefit all children.
Governors take an active role in the school, not only attending meetings, but also functions, undertaking visits to classrooms and helping out with school trips.
The key roles for me as Chair within our school are:-
· Leading effective governance (giving the governing body a clear lead and direction and that we all work as one team)
· Building the team (attracting governors with the necessary skills and ensuring that tasks are delegated across the governing body so that all members contribute)
· Relationship with the headteacher (being a critical friend by offering support, challenge and encouragement, holding the headteacher to account and ensuring the head teacher’s performance management is rigorous and robust)
· Improving your school (ensuring school improvement is the focus of all policy and strategy and that governor scrutiny, monitoring and challenge reflect school improvement priorities.
So with all that said when you see me around please stop me and say hello and feel free to ask me any questions you may have, as we are all
